Stay at Hotel D’Angleterre for a Perfect Spring Trip to Copenhagen

Crocuses, tulips and hyacinths blooming in Kongens Nytorv (also called The King’s New Square) sit close to Copenhagen’s most iconic hotel, Hotel d’Angleterre. These bright blooms signal the end of the long Scandinavian winter and invite visitors to wander the city’s tree-lined streets and parks during a delightful European spring.

Located on Copenhagen’s main square, Kongens Nytorv, Hotel d’Angleterre opened its doors in 1755 and has long been regarded as a landmark in Copenhagen. A favored stop for cultural figures like Hans Christian Andersen, the hotel is the city’s only Leading Hotel of the World, celebrated for its refined Scandinavian design and exceptional service.

The hotel houses the Michelin-starred restaurant Marchal, led by Executive Chef Alexander Baert, who combines classical French technique with influences from the New Nordic cuisine movement. The hotel’s bar, Balthazar, holds the distinction of being Denmark’s first Champagne bar and remains a popular spot for guests and locals alike.

Maison, the hotel’s gourmet pastry shop, recently won Cake of the Year 2026 at Denmark’s prestigious pastry competition, which crowns the city’s best cake. About 100 pastry chefs entered, each producing 28 identical cakes that were judged on taste and presentation by a panel from the Copenhagen Pastry Guild.

Maison’s Head Pastry Chef Freja Krarup Johansen secured the top prize for the second consecutive year with her creation Pineapple Twister: pineapple cream with lime, vanilla mousse, a crunchy yuzu crisp, almond biscuit and pineapple jelly flavored with lemon verbena. She also received the Creativity Prize for her innovative approach.

A classic sign of spring in Copenhagen is the reopening of Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks. Founded in 1843, Tivoli inspired Walt Disney and continues to enchant visitors with creative rides, live entertainment and a wide range of dining options suitable for all ages.

Hotel d’Angleterre offers a Tivoli package that includes park entry, and guests can also apply savings from special promotions—such as four nights for the price of three or three nights for the price of two—toward Tivoli tickets. Other seasonal offers include family packages and dining experiences that pair a three-course meal at Marchal with an overnight stay and a generous breakfast buffet.

Although the hotel’s signature gourmet Easter Brunch has concluded, the neighborhood remains a rich dining area just minutes from the hotel. Nearby options include Beau Marche, Llama and Esmée, alongside the hotel’s own venues. The area is also close to cultural attractions like Designmuseum Denmark, the National Gallery of Denmark, the Copenhagen Opera House and the distinctive Christiania Art Gallery.
