The Atlas Cedar Biosphere Reserve in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains safeguards roughly 75 percent of the world’s Atlas cedar population. The landscape and its communities are currently challenged by water stress driven in part by shifts from traditional nomadic grazing to more intensive agricultural practices. The reserve aims to balance habitat protection with sustainable water and land use for local livelihoods.
