Pulitzer Amsterdam, a historic hotel spanning 25 interconnected canal houses between two major canals, has unveiled the final stage of a comprehensive refurbishment this August. The renovation’s first phase, completed in February, introduced a new restaurant, Jansz; Pulitzer’s Bar; and 80 redesigned guestrooms and suites on the Keizersgracht canal side. The final phase now connects the Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht canals and adds 145 new guestrooms and suites, a redesigned lobby, and a marble garden café.
The hotel’s garden has been reimagined as a park-like retreat, featuring a large swing surrounded by hand-carved wooden rocking horses. At the grand opening on August 15, Pulitzer Amsterdam will present a total of 225 guestrooms and suites that combine the history of the individual canal houses with contemporary Dutch design.
“It’s incredible to see how our vision for Pulitzer Amsterdam has come to life. We have woven the multiple Pulitzer stories into the fabric of the new design to celebrate and evoke the grandeur and the heritage of these Golden Age canal houses,” said Jacu Strauss, creative director, Pulitzer Amsterdam. “Our future lies in our past and we want to stay true to our roots and celebrate the history and heritage of the canal houses whilst being both luxurious and glamorous. The hotel’s hidden touches and individuality are what make Pulitzer Amsterdam unique, and each room offers ongoing surprises for both new and returning guests.”
No two rooms are identical. The property features four distinctive guestroom categories and three suite categories, including the romantic Pulitzer’s Suite. Four Collector’s Suites include private street entrances and impressive canal views. The interiors draw inspiration from the layered histories of the buildings and the personalities who might have lived there over the centuries.
Jansz embraces an easygoing Dutch sensibility under the direction of executive chef Cassidy Hallman, offering a menu that complements the hotel’s relaxed yet refined atmosphere. Pulitzer’s Bar provides a chic, intimate setting for cocktails and conversation.
Located close to Amsterdam’s major cultural attractions—such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Anne Frank House—Pulitzer Amsterdam blends a central location with thoughtful design rooted in local history. Nightly rates start at $295.
