Omni Hotels & Resorts will assume long-term operation of Toronto’s historic King Edward Hotel. Effective Aug. 1, the landmark property will reopen under the name The Omni King Edward Hotel.
Opened in 1903 and situated in Toronto’s Financial District, the King Edward is one of North America’s earliest “palace” hotels. As part of the new partnership, the property is undergoing a $40 million renovation aimed at restoring its original grandeur while introducing contemporary comforts. The project includes completely redesigned guestrooms, upgraded bathrooms, a new fitness center and refreshed meeting and event spaces.
A centerpiece of the restoration is the hotel’s iconic Crystal Ballroom on the 17th floor. With 20-foot ceilings and panoramic city views in all four directions, the ballroom — closed since the 1970s — will be brought back to its former splendor as a dramatic event hall for weddings, galas and other large gatherings.
“The King Edward Hotel is a very unique property with a rich history from more than a century of hosting guests, as well as being a great source of pride for the city of Toronto,” said Mike Deitemeyer, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts. “Omni is committed to making this incredible hotel the place to stay in Toronto, whether traveling for business or leisure.”
The restoration balances historic preservation with modern amenities, ensuring that the hotel’s original architectural details and elegant character remain central to the guest experience while meeting contemporary expectations for comfort and convenience.
Located in the heart of the Financial District, The Omni King Edward Hotel will provide convenient access to Toronto’s business centers, cultural attractions and transportation hubs, positioning it as an appealing choice for both business and leisure travelers.
The renovation underscores a broader trend in luxury hospitality to revive and reimagine historic properties, maintaining their unique identities while offering updated services and facilities. Once complete, the revitalized King Edward will reestablish itself as a premier destination in Toronto’s hotel landscape.
