The Getaway, a newly renovated boutique hotel with 34 guestrooms, opened this spring in Carmel-by-the-Sea. The property blends coastal ease with casual-chic design, drawing on natural textures and a soft, seaside-inspired palette.

Previously known as the Village Inn, the two-story retreat sits on the edge of downtown Carmel and offers a refreshed, modern take on classic coastal lodging. Each guestroom includes a fireplace and carefully chosen décor and amenities, with interiors that emphasize natural tones alongside soft grays and muted blues. Bathrooms are finished with geometric black, white and gray tile patterns and crisp white surfaces that feel clean and contemporary. Outside, a welcoming terrace centers around a fire pit, creating a relaxed gathering spot.
Guest amenities include a complimentary daily breakfast and a daily sparkling wine hour on the outdoor terrace. The hotel is pet-friendly and provides thoughtful dog amenities such as beds, bowls and treats to make four-legged guests comfortable.

“The Getaway has a playful, energetic and youthful personality — a distinct experience for families and the spirited lifestyle traveler who wants to live life out loud and explore the best of the destination,” says Kevin Krueger, general manager. The hotel’s location places guests steps from downtown shops, restaurants and galleries, while the beach remains a short distance away.
Hilary Newsom, president and partner of PlumpJack Group, the hospitality management company operating the property, said the team values Carmel-by-the-Sea’s history and character. She noted the group’s excitement about expanding its presence in the community and offering visitors another way to experience the area alongside its first Carmel property, The Hideaway.
