Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba Review: Luxury Eco-Lodge in Sacred Valley

ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: After an early-morning flight and a long drive to the town of Urubamba, we finally arrived at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba. Even though it was dark outside, the hotel entrance and surrounding scenery were immediately striking. The staff greeted us warmly with a welcome cocktail, invited us to the lobby to meet our guide, and shared an overview of the property and activities. After a brief introduction we rode a golf cart up to our private casitas to settle in and prepare for dinner.

GUEST QUARTERS: My accommodation was a standalone casita set apart from the main building. Guests can walk to their casitas along scenic paths or use golf cart service; since it was night and we were unfamiliar with the grounds, we chose the golf cart. Stepping inside, I was impressed by the generous space and comfortable layout.

The living area featured a sofa, two armchairs, a coffee table and a small dining spot, creating a cozy space to relax. To the right a television sat above a working fireplace that can be lit on request. Further inside, a king-sized bed with plush pillows and bedside tables offered a restful retreat.

Opposite the bed, floor-to-ceiling doors opened onto a private patio with seating—an ideal perch for enjoying sweeping 360-degree mountain views. At the rear of the casita, the bathroom was spacious and well-appointed, with a separate toilet room, a walk-in shower, and a double-sink vanity. A small closet area provided a discreet place to stow luggage and keep the room tidy.

SERVICES AND AMENITIES: On arrival guests receive a traditional chicha welcome drink in the lobby and a voucher for a complimentary pisco sour to enjoy during the stay. The hotel includes a daily buffet breakfast, express check-out, daily tea time, a welcome gift, 24-hour reception, and a selection of included in-house excursions. Additional guided experiences are available for an extra fee.

Included excursions are thoughtfully designed to highlight local culture and nature: Chicha de Jora workshops teach the ancestral process for making the traditional beverage; the Twilight Mountain walk is a sunset trail on the property that combines panoramic views with insights into Andean astronomy; Birds of Urubamba is a guided birdwatching stroll to spot indigenous species around the grounds; and the Challa Huasi Trail follows trails up Huasi Challa hill for sweeping views of the surrounding valleys.

TOP TAKEAWAYS:

  • Make use of the complimentary excursions to deepen your understanding of local flora, fauna and cultural traditions—these activities add meaningful context to a stay in the Sacred Valley.
  • Book one of the standalone casitas for unparalleled 360-degree views of the Andes. While the entire property offers beautiful scenery, the casitas deliver a particularly memorable perspective at any time of day.
