Passengers flying with Etihad Airways on Sept. 7 will be able to watch the GAA Hurling All Ireland Senior Championship Final between Kilkenny and Tipperary live — the first time this match has ever been shown on a commercial flight.
The live coverage, provided by Irish broadcaster RTÉ, will be available through Etihad’s E-BOX in-flight entertainment system, powered by Panasonic, on wide-body aircraft equipped with Live TV.
“The GAA Hurling All Ireland Senior Championship Final is one of the highlights in the Irish sporting calendar,” said Beatrice Cosgrove, general manager Ireland for Etihad Airways. “Guests who cannot watch the match on the ground will be able to enjoy the excitement and passion coming live from Croke Park.”
Etihad’s Sport 24 channel already features live sports such as the Barclays Premier League, the Formula 1 World Championship, the tennis Grand Slams and the golf majors, and the addition of the hurling final expands the airline’s live sports offering for passengers.
This broadcast marks a notable development in onboard entertainment, enhancing the passenger experience by bringing prominent live sporting events directly to travelers in the air. Customers on flights with Live TV can tune in and follow the match in real time, ensuring they don’t miss key moments even while en route.
