Hawaiian Airlines Increases Checked Baggage Fees — What Travelers Need to Know

Hawaiian Airlines has joined other major carriers in raising fees for checked luggage. The airline now charges $30 for the first checked bag and $40 for the second on main cabin fares, an increase of $5 per bag.

This change mirrors recent moves by other U.S. carriers such as American, United and Delta, which also raised their checked-bag fees this year. Hawaiian says this is its first increase to checked-bag charges since 2012.

Certain exceptions remain. For travel between islands within the state, Hawaiian’s neighbor-island checked-bag fees stay at $25 for the first bag and $35 for the second. HawaiianMiles members continue to receive discounted rates for intra-Hawaii travel, paying $15 for the first checked bag and $20 for the second. International guests are still allowed to check two bags free of charge on applicable fares.

Cardholders of the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard also receive complimentary first checked bags when they purchase tickets directly from Hawaiian for travel between Hawai‘i and any of Hawaiian’s 12 North American gateway cities.
