The Star Alliance network welcomed a new member this month: Avianca Brasil. The official induction took place during a ceremony at São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport, marking an important expansion for the global airline alliance.
“Adding Avianca Brasil to our network is an important step in enhancing our customer proposition in Latin America. Brazil is the most important aviation market on the continent and we are pleased that from today onward, we can once again offer domestic connections in Brazil,” said Mark Schwab, CEO of Star Alliance.
With Avianca Brasil on board, Star Alliance further strengthens its presence in Brazil. Thirteen member carriers now operate in the country: Air Canada, Air China, Avianca, Avianca Brasil, Copa Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines. This expansion reinforces Star Alliance’s position as the airline alliance with the largest number of member carriers serving Brazil.
Avianca Brasil brings 15 additional domestic destinations to the alliance’s Brazilian network. Combined with the routes already served by the other 12 Star Alliance members, the alliance now offers access to 27 destinations across Brazil. This growth improves domestic connectivity for travelers flying with Star Alliance member airlines, supporting smoother connections and broader route options within the country.
The move also underscores the alliance’s strategic focus on Latin America, where demand for air travel continues to grow. By integrating Avianca Brasil’s domestic route network, Star Alliance aims to provide passengers with more convenient itineraries, enhanced frequent-flyer benefits across carriers, and better coordination of schedules and services among partners.
Passengers flying to and within Brazil can expect improved connections between international flights operated by Star Alliance members and domestic services operated by Avianca Brasil. Frequent flyers will benefit from more opportunities to earn and redeem miles across an expanded domestic route map, while travelers seeking multi-city itineraries or regional connections will find greater flexibility and choice.
Overall, the addition of Avianca Brasil to Star Alliance strengthens the alliance’s market coverage in Brazil and enhances the travel experience for customers connecting between international and domestic flights. As the alliance integrates the new member, travelers should see progressive improvements in network coordination, customer service partnerships, and route availability across Brazil.
