Lodging and hospitality company Angama has opened Angama Amboseli in November 2023, a private and intimate 10-suite lodge set within Kenya’s 5,700-acre Kimana Sanctuary. Positioned to take full advantage of sweeping views across the border to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the lodge offers a refined base for wildlife viewing and relaxed safaris.

Created by the same design team behind Angama Mara, each tented suite at Angama Amboseli—two of which connect to form family units—is thoughtfully appointed. Suites feature a super-king bed, a personalized drinks armoire and a dressing area that leads to a bathroom with a double vanity and double shower. Floor-to-ceiling screened doors open onto a private deck with a shaded lounge, an outdoor shower and Angama’s signature rocking chairs, all arranged to maximize uninterrupted views of Kilimanjaro.
The lodge’s guest areas blend indoor and outdoor living. Dining takes place around an expansive baraza and guests can gather at a sundowner fire pit to watch the light shift across Africa’s tallest mountain. An infinity pool overlooks the sanctuary and includes a drinking trough designed for visiting elephants. Facilities also include Studios that house a safari shop, a family-friendly games room, a gallery and makers’ studio showcasing Kenyan artisans, and a photography studio that supports camera rentals, image editing and guided photo shoots.

Angama Amboseli benefits from exclusive traversing rights across the Kimana Sanctuary, offering unrestricted game viewing and an unusually high density of wildlife. Visitors frequently encounter elephants, eland, buffalo, reedbuck, giraffe, zebra, warthogs, as well as predators such as leopards and cheetahs, and smaller cats like servals, alongside many birds of prey. Early-morning “pajama safaris” provide particularly striking vistas of Kilimanjaro. Amboseli National Park is also nearby and can be reached in about 45 minutes by road for guests who wish to explore that protected area.
“Set within a fever tree forest where some of Africa’s last Super Tuskers roam, Angama Amboseli will be a gentle start or finish to any East African safari, and a lovely contrast to the wide open plains of the Maasai Mara,” said Steve Mitchell, CEO and co-founder of Angama. He added that guests should expect Angama’s signature blend of warm Kenyan service, thoughtfully curated experiences, contemporary African design, and touches of spontaneity and humor to make every stay memorable.

Access to Angama Amboseli is straightforward. Guests can fly daily with Safarilink from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Sanctuary’s private airfield or nearby airstrips, and private charters are welcomed for direct transfers to and from the Maasai Mara. For overland travelers, the lodge is reachable by a 3.5-hour drive on paved roads from Nairobi, making it a convenient addition to any East African itinerary.
