Finnair Expands Route Network with New International Flights

Finnair is expanding its route network with new seasonal services to Dublin, Athens and Malta. The Finnish flag carrier will operate flights from Helsinki (HEL) to Dublin (DUB) six times weekly starting March 30 using 100-seat Embraer 190 aircraft. Service to Malta (MLA) will operate twice weekly from April 2 using Airbus A321 Sharklet aircraft, and flights to Athens (ATH) will run twice weekly from April 5 using Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.

“With these new destinations we are responding to growing demand, particularly from Asia, so timetables for each of these new routes are tailored for the best possible connection to Finnair’s Asian flights,” said Petri Vuori, vice president of global sales at Finnair. He added that the schedule adjustments also benefit passengers traveling from Finland and the Baltic region, who will now have more convenient options to visit these popular Mediterranean and European capitals.

The additions complement Finnair’s existing network by improving connectivity between Northern Europe and southern Europe, while supporting seamless transfers onto the airline’s long-haul services. Dublin, Athens and Malta are well-known for their cultural attractions, business links and tourism appeal, making them strategic choices for seasonal expansion. The use of Embraer 190 and Airbus A319/A320/A321 aircraft ensures capacity is matched to expected demand, offering passengers a mix of frequency and comfort.

These seasonal routes reflect Finnair’s broader strategy to adjust capacity with market needs and to optimize connections for international travelers. By aligning departure and arrival times with Asian services, the carrier aims to reduce layover times and provide smoother itineraries for transit passengers. At the same time, direct travelers from Finland and neighboring countries will benefit from additional travel options to established European destinations.

Passengers planning to travel on these new routes should check Finnair’s official schedules for exact flight times and availability, as seasonal services may be subject to change based on demand and operational considerations. Advance booking is recommended to secure preferred travel dates and seats on the announced aircraft types.
