Munich’s Mandarin Oriental Reopens Pop-Up Rooftop Chalet for Winter

Back by popular demand, Mandarin Oriental, Munich reopens its seasonal rooftop chalet restaurant, The Alm, on Nov. 1. Nestled atop the hotel, the wooden chalet offers a cozy, alpine atmosphere and specializes in Bavarian cuisine, paired with sweeping views of the Alps, Munich’s winter skyline and the city’s iconic Frauenkirche.

Designed to evoke a traditional mountain retreat, The Alm combines warm wooden interiors with authentic service: staff dressed in Bavarian dirndl and lederhosen create a welcoming, festive experience. The three-course dinner is priced at €59 (approximately $80) per person and features regional favorites such as a classic Bavarian platter and Vienna organic chicken, with schnapps available to complete the meal.

The chalet is an ideal spot for both visitors and locals seeking a seasonal dining experience with a scenic backdrop. Its intimate setting and alpine décor make it especially popular during the colder months, providing a comforting escape without leaving the city.

Hours: The Alm serves dinner Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Advance reservations are recommended to secure a table.

The rooftop location not only offers memorable views but also positions The Alm as a distinctive winter destination in Munich’s dining scene. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed meal after exploring the city or a special evening with panoramic vistas, the chalet delivers authentic Bavarian flavors in a charming setting.
