Taking inspiration from classic promotional vehicles like Oscar Mayer’s famous Weinermobiles, Lufthansa has launched its Taste of America food truck to bring regionally inspired in-flight menus directly to the public.
Currently on a cross-country tour with upcoming stops in Dallas (Oct. 18) and Los Angeles (Oct. 21), the vehicle is designed to resemble the exterior of an airplane. Parked in busy urban locations, the truck operates alongside an adjacent space that recreates Lufthansa’s premium-cabin dining experience, where up to 200 visitors can sample the new menu items.
Lufthansa is documenting the Taste of America tour across social channels, encouraging people to share photos and stories about the food traditions that define their home state. Participants also have the opportunity to enter a promotion to win two round-trip airline tickets.
“Lufthansa is known for creating innovative dining experiences inspired by the customs of the more than 100 countries we fly to,” said Ernst Derenthal, Lufthansa’s catering area manager for the Americas. “From spicy chili sauce to locally caught seafood to Italian influences, Lufthansa’s Taste of America menus capture the gastronomic techniques and flavors of America’s culinary melting pot.”
The Taste of America menus began appearing on Lufthansa flights to Germany in May and are available on services departing from the airline’s 17 U.S. gateways.
