Marriott Debuts Luxury Hotel on Shanghai Skyline

Marriott International has added a striking new presence to the Shanghai skyline with the opening of W Shanghai – The Bund. Located in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic cities, the hotel offers sweeping views of the Huangpu River.

The design blends bold contemporary elements with hints of historic elegance. Nestled among Art Deco facades and traditional Chinese landmarks, the property references both colonial glamour and futuristic style to reflect Shanghai’s layered character.

“Shanghai is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, and its vibrant nightlife, influential fashion scene and appetite for innovation make it a perfect fit for the W brand,” said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader for W Hotels Worldwide.

On arrival, guests are welcomed in the Living Room — the brand’s reinterpretation of a classic lobby — where neon light installations set a dramatic tone. Throughout the hotel, creative art pieces create a strong visual identity: the Melting Qipao symbolizes Shanghai’s cultural fusion, while the welcome desk features kaleidoscopic fixtures that play with light and color.

The hotel contains 374 guestrooms and suites, each equipped with the signature W bed and playful accents like pillows shaped after Shanghai’s famous xiaolongbao dumpling and decorative chopsticks. Thirty-five of the accommodations are suites, including the Cloud on the Bund, which highlights a large LED wall and a suspended bed. All rooms offer panoramic views, privacy glass and Nespresso machines for in-room coffee.

Dining options include The Kitchen Table, a contemporary space inspired by the modern bistro; YEN, which presents a modern take on Cantonese cuisine; and LIQUID at YEN, a hidden speakeasy-style bar for cocktails and intimate evenings.
