Expansion Ahead: How to Prepare Your Business for Growth

This year TAP Air Portugal expands its transatlantic network with three new routes from Lisbon to the United States, reinforcing its status as one of the fastest-growing airlines worldwide. The carrier has posted rapid growth in recent years, carrying over 14 million passengers in 2017 and continuing to expand its route map and fleet.

June 2019 brings three new services from Lisbon (LIS): Chicago O’Hare (ORD) launches June 1, San Francisco (SFO) begins June 10, and Washington Dulles (IAD) starts June 16. Chicago services operate five times weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. San Francisco, TAP’s only West Coast gateway, operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Washington, D.C. departures run Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

All three routes will be operated with the Airbus A330neo, for which TAP is the launch customer. The airline expects delivery of 21 A330neos in the next 18 months as part of a broader order for 71 aircraft that also includes 19 A320neos, 17 A321neos and 14 A321LRs. This fleet renewal supports TAP’s long-haul growth and improved passenger experience.

The A330neo introduces advanced onboard features such as modern personalized inflight entertainment and connectivity that enables free text messaging for passengers — a first for a European carrier on long-haul flights. The aircraft uses Airbus’s Airspace cabin concept and offers three cabin classes: Economy, EconomyXtra and Executive business class.

Executive business class on the A330neo features 34 fully reclining seats that extend to over six feet when flat, each equipped with USB ports, individual power sockets, headphone jacks, reading lights and increased storage. Economy and EconomyXtra cabins offer improved comfort with more legroom, greater recline and upgraded seat finishes.

To encourage visitors to explore beyond Lisbon, TAP continues to promote its Portugal Stopover program, launched in 2016. The program allows eligible travelers to add up to five nights in Lisbon or Porto at no additional airfare when traveling to or from many long-haul destinations. A network of more than 150 partners offers stopover passengers special benefits, including hotel discounts, complimentary experiences and welcome gifts.
