Direct Flights From North America to Budapest Begin Service

Budapest Airport has introduced long-haul service to North America with the launch of new flights linking Toronto Pearson Airport and Budapest Airport operated by Air Transat. The carrier runs the route weekly, with a scheduled stop in Montréal, using Airbus A330 aircraft.

“We are proud to welcome our Canadian partners and to introduce Air Transat’s direct connection between North America and Budapest. Tourism in Budapest is currently outperforming many other European markets, so we are confident this new service will be successful and could lead to increased frequencies,” said Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport.

The new connection improves convenience for travelers between the two cities. In 2014, approximately 55,000 indirect passengers were recorded on this travel corridor, and the direct service is expected to better serve that demand while supporting continued tourism growth to Budapest.

Air Transat’s Airbus A330 aircraft provide a comfortable long-haul option for both leisure and visiting passengers. The weekly schedule with a Montreal stopover offers passengers additional routing flexibility and connects Budapest to North American markets more directly than previous indirect options.

The introduction of transatlantic flights complements Budapest Airport’s expanding network and underlines the airport’s role as a gateway between Central Europe and overseas destinations. As demand evolves, the airport and its airline partners may adjust capacity and frequency to match passenger needs.
