St. Regis Unveils Striking New Architectural Landmark in Chicago

St. Regis Hotels & Resorts opened its newest property, St. Regis Chicago, this May. Developed by Magellan Development Group and designed by Studio Gang, the 101-story tower is the tallest building in the world designed by a female architect. The hotel brings sophisticated dining, bespoke service and contemporary design to the heart of downtown Chicago.

Located in the Lakeshore East neighborhood, St. Regis Chicago provides convenient access to the Chicago River and is within walking distance of top luxury retailers, notable dining destinations and cultural landmarks such as Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Magnificent Mile.

St. Regis Chicago presents a distinctive stacked profile formed from interconnected frustum shapes that extend to varying heights. The tower’s crystalline façade, inspired by natural forms, resembles the facets of a gem. Its gradient of green-blue glass reflects the hues of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River, creating a striking presence on the skyline.

Interiors for many public areas, the presidential suite and The St. Regis Spa were created by KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group, drawing inspiration from Chicago’s architectural heritage. Metallic tones and materials such as copper and rust are paired with geometric, angular lines throughout the public spaces, spa and presidential suite—an aesthetic that subtly references the city’s history, including the Great Chicago Fire, and its interconnected waterways, buildings and parks.

The hotel offers 159 guestrooms and 33 suites across 11 floors. Rooms feature a curated palette of natural stone and wood finishes, balancing minimal, refined interiors with expansive views of the urban skyline. All guests can request the signature St. Regis Butler Service, a brand hallmark that provides amenities such as garment pressing and packing assistance.

On the 11th floor, Miru is an all-day dining venue led by chef Hisanobu Osaka. The menu focuses on Japanese small plates, sushi and sashimi, alongside steak and seafood selections. An extensive wine and sake program complements the dishes, while pastry chef Juan Gutierrez is responsible for desserts and pastries. Miru—whose name means “view” in Japanese—celebrates its waterfront setting and offers indoor and outdoor seating, private and semi-private dining areas, plus two terraces with sweeping views of Lake Michigan, Navy Pier and the Chicago River.

The Coffee Bar on Eleven serves grab-and-go breakfast items and handmade pastries daily. Expected to open this fall, Tre Dita, a Tuscan steakhouse from award-winning chef Evan Funke, will feature handmade pasta and classic Italian steaks such as bistecca Fiorentina prepared on an open-hearth, wood-fired grill.

Across the hotel’s food and beverage venues, including The Drawing Room and Library lounge areas, guests can experience St. Regis rituals like Afternoon Tea and evening Champagne Sabrage. The hotel also offers a Chicago-inspired take on the brand’s signature Bloody Mary called the 1871: served in a smoking glass as a nod to the Great Chicago Fire, it features a local rye whiskey and a rim of smoked salt.

The Wellness Floor houses a 12,000-square-foot St. Regis Spa designed as an urban oasis focused on calming sensory experiences. Guests can enjoy Champagne at the Celebration Bar, relax in the Iridium Lounge and book restorative spa treatments. The St. Regis Spa Suite provides a private gathering space for shared treatments. Overlooking the Chicago River with views of Navy Pier and Lake Michigan, the fitness center features modern equipment, an outdoor sundeck, a yoga studio and two private fitness rooms. A large heated indoor pool offers panoramic views of the city and the lake.

For meetings and events, the hotel provides more than 1,000 square feet of flexible event space. The 4,721-square-foot Astor Ballroom accommodates up to 500 guests, while third-floor executive function spaces include four meeting rooms and pre-function areas ideal for corporate gatherings and private events.

St. Regis Chicago combines architectural ambition and refined service to offer a new luxury destination in the city, blending design, dining and wellness within a landmark downtown setting.
