JetBlue Announces Upgrades to Its Home Terminal Experience

JetBlue has unveiled plans to upgrade its home terminal at JFK International Airport’s Terminal 5. Since moving into T5 in 2008, this will be the airline’s first significant renovation of the space. The overhaul focuses primarily on dining, with seven new restaurants slated to open, highlighting well-known New York establishments such as Melt Shop, Ovenly, Shake Shack, Otto’s Tacos, Lil’ Sweet Chick, The Little Beet and KorillaBBQ. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall.

“We take our position as New York’s hometown airline seriously,” said Mariya Stoyanova, director of product development at JetBlue. “Instead of relying on national chains, we want travelers passing through T5 to experience authentic New York flavors from places locals love. As a company that started in New York, we also see this as an opportunity to give back—supporting locally grown and emerging businesses just as the community supported us. Adding these restaurants lets us showcase the city’s culinary diversity while helping up-and-coming operators reach a broader audience.”

Rick Cotton, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, praised the initiative, saying these additions will “bring the best of New York right to Terminal 5.” He noted the project demonstrates the Port Authority and JetBlue’s shared commitment to delivering a world-class airport experience that reflects the city’s vibrant local culture.

The restaurant selection spans a range of cuisines and concepts, from fast-casual favorites to specialty bakeries and taco joints, aiming to give travelers quick, high-quality options as well as memorable dining experiences. By prioritizing New York-grown brands, JetBlue seeks to reinforce Terminal 5’s identity as a gateway that feels distinctly tied to the city.

Beyond food, the terminal upgrades are positioned to enhance the overall passenger experience at T5. While JetBlue has not detailed every element of the renovation, the emphasis on local partners suggests a broader strategy to infuse the terminal with New York character through retail, amenities and curated services that reflect the tastes and energy of the region.

Construction beginning this fall will be phased to minimize disruption to travelers and airline operations. JetBlue and the Port Authority will coordinate to maintain smooth terminal functions while new concessions are built and integrated. Travelers can expect the new dining options to roll out as spaces are completed and tenants open for business.

These changes align with Terminal 5’s role as JetBlue’s flagship facility and a key New York travel hub. By updating the terminal with a fresh lineup of local eateries and improving passenger amenities, JetBlue aims to strengthen its connection to the city, enhance customer satisfaction, and support small and mid-size New York food businesses as they expand their reach to a wider, often international audience.
