Now open, Hotel Milu Milano welcomes culturally curious travelers to an inspiring urban retreat. Designed by architect and designer Alex Meitlis, this second Milu property sits in Milan’s vibrant Porta Venezia district, just steps from the historic Porta Venezia gate. The hotel combines restored 19th-century Milanese architecture with bold, contemporary interiors to create a distinctive city stay.

Meitlis approached the project as a return to the building’s roots. Once operating as Mercure Milano Centro, the 19th-century structure was carefully restored to highlight original features such as the central staircase and exposed brickwork. The design pays homage to Milan’s modern spirit while preserving the property’s historic character.
The hotel offers 32 rooms across seven categories—single, comfort double, superior double, deluxe double, deluxe twin, comfort triple and prestige quadruple—each defined by refined minimalism that lets individual design elements stand out. Rooms draw on traditional Milanese materials, textiles and tones, featuring Terrazzo flooring, wooden shutters and mirrored walls. Bathrooms include vibrant glass accents in red, green and pink, adding a fresh, comfortable feel throughout the property.

Art is central to the Milu identity, and Hotel Milu Milano showcases curated works throughout the property. The lobby features large canvases that welcome guests, while each room displays paintings selected by artist Carmel Ilan. In the lobby, Ilan’s main body of work—rooted in themes of earth and natural materials—emphasizes the notion that organic elements are foundational to creation.
Guestroom pieces come from Ilan’s Here and Now series, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. These works are intimate and concentrated, reflecting the tension between retreat and expression that many experienced in that period.

The communal space is designed for unwinding, meeting other travelers or planning days exploring Milan’s nearby cultural attractions, shopping streets and historic sites.
