United Airlines 2018 Operational Results and Performance Highlights

United Airlines released its operational results for July 2018, and the numbers show continued expansion across its network. United Airlines and United Express operate roughly 4,600 daily flights to 357 airports on five continents. In the prior year the combined carriers transported more than 148 million passengers on about 1.6 million flights, and recent figures indicate that growth is ongoing.

United’s July 2018 report shows consolidated traffic — measured as revenue passenger miles — rose nearly 7 percent compared with July 2017. Consolidated capacity, represented by available seat miles, increased by about 4 percent year over year. As a result, United’s consolidated load factor improved by 2.4 percentage points versus the same month in 2017, reflecting stronger demand relative to available seats.

Several operational developments were highlighted in the report. United placed orders for 25 Embraer E-175 regional jets and four Boeing 787-9 widebodies, moves intended to refresh and expand the fleet. The airline also unveiled a redesigned homepage along with updates to digital design and functionality aimed at improving the online customer experience. In addition, the company reported multiple new corporate records for its operations.

One notable customer-facing achievement is United’s Polaris lounge, which was named Best Business Class Lounge in the United States in the 2018 Skytrax World Airline Awards. Polaris has become a signature element of United’s premium product, representing investment in the onboard and ground experience for premium travelers.

United also earned a score of 100 percent on the 2018 Disability Equality Index for its policies on disability inclusion and practices, signaling progress on accessibility and workplace standards. While the carrier has faced public scrutiny at times, these recent operational improvements and recognitions suggest United is focusing on service, fleet modernization, and inclusivity as it grows.
