EVA Air Joins Star Alliance: What It Means for Passengers

EVA Air has officially joined Star Alliance, becoming the alliance’s 28th member. This milestone expands the global reach of the alliance, which now serves more than 1,300 destinations across 195 countries.

The formal induction took place at EVA Air Hangar 3 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). Dignitaries included Mark Schwab, CEO of Star Alliance; Austin Cheng, President of EVA Air; Ms. Wang Yingxiang, Vice Chairman of Air China (which sponsored EVA Air’s entry into the alliance); and chief executives from several Star Alliance carriers. International media attended the event.

Celebrations featured a red carpet reception and the unveiling of the first aircraft bearing both EVA Air and Star Alliance liveries. Cultural performances by Taipei singers and dance troupes, speeches, lighting and music displays, videos, a lantern-lighting ceremony, and a selection of foods and beverages representing Star Alliance member carriers highlighted the program.

Mark Schwab noted that adding “another high-quality member” strengthens the alliance’s ability to connect cultures and communities. Star Alliance’s presence in the Asia/Pacific region is significant: nineteen member airlines operate over 4,000 daily flights to, from, and within the region, serving 280 airports in 44 countries.

Passengers will benefit from enhanced connectivity and coordinated services. EVA Air now offers through-checking of baggage and check-in for final flights on Star Alliance member carriers where applicable. Members of EVA Air’s Infinity MileageLands frequent-flyer program can earn and redeem miles across the entire Star Alliance network, extending loyalty benefits and travel options.

The integration brings operational and customer-service advantages, including improved transfer connections, broader schedule options, and a larger combined route network for travelers to and from Taiwan. For business and leisure travelers alike, the expanded network simplifies itineraries and provides more seamless travel across international gateways.

The ceremony underlined the cultural and commercial ties fostered by airline partnerships. EVA Air’s entry into Star Alliance reinforces cooperation among carriers in the region and beyond, supporting growth in passenger choice and global connectivity while maintaining service quality standards upheld by the alliance.
