Mexická Brings Authentic Mexican Flavors to Prague’s Dining Scene

The design is distinctive and the food exceptional. The restaurant is Mexická, a Mexican eatery located in a historic industrial town square in the Holešovice neighborhood of Prague, housed in a former elevated brewery space that lends the place a rugged, authentic character.

Opened in March 2025, the restaurant centers around visible, working show kitchens where tortillas are baked in full view of guests and tacos are assembled at the pass. A large wood-fired oven and charcoal grill play starring roles in the menu, bringing smoke and char to several signature dishes. The theatrical preparation makes dining here both a culinary and a visual experience.

One corner of the dining room houses a fish-tank station where ceviche is prepared tableside, with each ingredient displayed so diners can watch the process from raw components to finished dish. The kitchen sits adjacent to a long cocktail bar; the bar’s display case rises above the counter and extends to an upper gallery, creating a layered, open-plan feel that connects bartenders and chefs with guests across multiple levels.

The menu balances traditional Mexican staples with modern interpretations. Expect grilled pork chop served with salsa verde, a layered chicken enchilada casserole, and a vegetable mole that highlights seasonal produce. Everyday accompaniments include freshly made corn tortillas, papas bravas with vibrant spices, and composed salads that complement the richer mains.

Architectural flourishes reinforce the restaurant’s Latin American identity. Galleries and columns feature stone reliefs inspired by Mayan pictographs. These motifs include original alphabet characters developed specifically for the space by graphic designer Petr Štěpán in collaboration with the architects and sculptors, adding an authentic, artful layer to the décor.

Design elements combine references to pre-Columbian civilizations with the symmetry and grandeur of colonial architecture, while also capturing the lively, informal atmosphere of a Mexican street. This blend of historical reference, monumental composition and everyday street energy shapes a setting that feels both ceremonial and warmly familiar.

The Mexická project was launched by the Together Gastro Alliance. Co-owner David Petřík has long considered Asia, Italy and Mexico key influences on contemporary dining, and adding a Mexican concept to their portfolio was a natural next step. Prague offered the right combination of history and urban energy for the venture. The team aimed to build a monumental restaurant that serves Central American cuisine and immerses guests in Mexican culture through carefully chosen design elements and distinctive decorative details.

From the open-kitchen theatrics to the bespoke Mayan-inspired reliefs, Mexická strives to deliver an experience that highlights authentic flavors while celebrating cultural heritage. The result is a restaurant that functions as part culinary destination, part cultural exhibit—where food, design and atmosphere work together to create memorable meals in the heart of Prague’s Holešovice district.
