Decked in dazzling décor, a mammoth menorah and an abundance of tinseled trees, Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Grandeur created holiday magic during its December 2023 maiden voyage from Miami.

Sarah Fabergé, great-granddaughter of renowned jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé, served as godmother and presided over the ship’s opening gala. Onstage in a sparkling silver gown, she revealed a striking pearl- and jewel-encrusted egg — the first Fabergé egg to be permanently displayed at sea — a fitting centerpiece for the festive atmosphere.
Cruise lines are increasingly embracing the holiday market, expanding routes and programming to meet growing demand. According to the 2025 State of the Cruise Industry Report, cruising is on the rise: many families travel together, with one-third sailing with at least two generations and 28 percent traveling with three to five generations, making cruises a natural choice for holiday gatherings.
“The holidays are all about making memories,” said Ken Rush, director of entertainment at Royal Caribbean, “and there’s no better place to celebrate than at sea.”
Royal Caribbean is preparing for its 10th year of Deck the Holidays, featuring guest mailboxes for letters to Santa, holiday movie nights on the pool deck, ornament-making sessions, caroling and a “Decked in Red” DJ dance party.
“People are craving something special and stress-free for the holidays,” said GG Mack of GG Mack Luxe Travel. “Instead of cooking, cleaning or hosting, many want to celebrate somewhere warm, festive and effortless — and a cruise checks every box.”
“For many clients, it’s more than a vacation,” she added. “It’s an opportunity to slow down and reconnect without the usual holiday chaos.”
Whether heading to the beaches of French Polynesia, the cultural riches of the Caribbean or destinations in between, cruises allow travelers to visit multiple places without repacking or worrying about missed connections. For hosts, a holiday cruise removes the pressure of preparing complex meals for family members with varying dietary needs, since meal service and cleanup are handled by the ship’s crew.
“A holiday at sea alleviates the pressure on the family chef, a welcome departure from the traditional holiday,” said Michele Lindsay, founder of Blue Pointe Travel, a boutique advisory firm. “Multigenerational families often find this type of vacation relatively stress-free during a season that can be full of demands and decisions.”

For younger travelers, Disney Cruise Line offers 119 Very Merrytime sailings across its six ships, complete with tree-lighting ceremonies, holiday parties featuring Mickey and Minnie, characters roaming the decks in festive attire and appearances by Santa Claus. Disney also transforms Castaway Cay, its private island in the Bahamas, into a winter wonderland with snow flurries and a decorated Christmas tree.
Luminara, the newest vessel in The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, will mark its first holiday sailing with a seven-night round-trip voyage from Singapore, stopping in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Phuket. After an extravagant brunch, guests can spend Christmas Day in Langkawi, Malaysia, relaxing on tropical beaches or exploring rainforest trails to the Seven Wells Waterfall.
Travelers seeking a white Christmas can choose Antarctic voyages this year. Silversea is offering two holiday sailings: an 18-day voyage aboard Silver Wind and a 15-day journey on Silver Cloud, both featuring multiple excursions along the Antarctic Peninsula with stops in South Georgia, the Falkland Islands and Chile.

River cruises also cater to the festive season. Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is running itineraries that visit Christmas markets across Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Germany, France and the Netherlands. This year’s Magical Parisian Holiday sails along the Seine aboard the intimate, 128-passenger S.S. Joie de Vivre, offering easy access to Parisian holiday markets and seasonal sights.
“Travelers are drawn to the ease of celebrating aboard a luxurious floating boutique hotel, visiting multiple destinations while only unpacking once,” said Ellen Bettridge, president and CEO of Uniworld Boutique River Cruises.
Crystal Cruises is planning a pair of 20-night holiday-themed sailings aboard its ocean liners. Crystal Serenity will traverse from the Caribbean to the Pacific, while Crystal Symphony sails from Cape Town to Mombasa. Both itineraries will include glühwein on deck, Champagne toasts at midnight and homemade Christmas cookies available throughout the ships.
“The ships transform into floating winter wonderlands,” said Günter Lorenz, vice president of food and beverage at Crystal Cruises. “They’re beautifully decorated with festive touches, twinkling lights and the comforting scent of holiday pastries wafting from the galleys.”
