Nashville International Airport is beginning a $327 million program to renovate its terminal and build a new international arrivals hall. Construction is scheduled to start next fall, with completion anticipated in late 2023.
“When complete, this project will provide travelers an expanded and visually engaging terminal lobby as well as a state-of-the-art International Arrivals Facility to accommodate future international flights,” said A. Dexter Samuels, board chairman.
Officials describe the work as one of the most significant transformations in the airport’s history, both in appearance and function.
The project will add roughly 440,000 square feet to the terminal. Architectural enhancements include taller ceilings and a new roof canopy to create a brighter, more open feel. Functional improvements focus on passenger flow and convenience: the security checkpoint area will be enlarged to reduce wait times, a pedestrian bridge will connect the parking garage directly to the terminal, and a central marketplace with views of the airfield will be introduced for dining and retail.
The new International Arrivals Facility will feature six gates and a dedicated customs processing area to support incoming global flights and streamline arrivals procedures.
“Our passenger growth the last several years has been extraordinary and multiple projections indicate our numbers will continue to climb for several years to come,” said Doug Kreulen, CEO and airport president. The upgrade is intended to meet that demand while improving the traveler experience and operational capacity.
By combining modern design elements with practical upgrades to security, circulation, and amenities, the airport aims to better serve both domestic and international travelers and prepare for future increases in passenger traffic.
