If you’ve ever imagined waking up beneath a luxurious canopy bed in your own private suite on a grand English estate, Lucknam Park makes that dream possible—if only for a few nights. Set on 500 acres and belonging to Relais & Châteaux, the estate combines sweeping fields, wooded areas, paddocks and stables home to elegant horses.

A mile-long avenue lined with 400 lime and beech trees planted in 1827 leads to the main house. The estate offers everything you expect from a quintessential English escape: formal walled gardens, manicured flower beds and hedges, a dedicated spa, excellent dining and refined rooms and cottages. The present manor stands on land once occupied by a farmhouse dating back to around 1199, while the classic walled garden and its layout date from the 1830s. Historic garden features include an 18th-century dovecote, a vinery greenhouse and a 1.5-acre arboretum containing a variety of rare trees.
Accommodations at Lucknam Park include 42 individually styled rooms and suites, plus a selection of private cottages. Options range from one- and three-bedroom Manor cottages to three- and four-bedroom Grand cottages and a three-bedroom Country cottage. Several Manor and Grand cottages can welcome dogs and even provide space for helicopter landings.

Guest rooms blend antique furnishings, fine textiles and heirloom china with modern conveniences. Amenities include 24-hour room service, a Ruark DAB Bluetooth digital radio, DVD and CD libraries with players, flat-screen televisions, valet parking, same-day dry cleaning on weekdays, complimentary car parking with electric charging ports, and access to the estate’s recreational facilities such as tennis courts, an outdoor gym and a children’s playground.
Later in the day, relax with afternoon tea or pre-dinner cocktails in the Drawing Room. Dining options range from the seasonal contemporary menu at The Brasserie—featuring a wood-fired oven and produce from the estate’s kitchen garden—to the Michelin-starred Restaurant Hywel Jones by Lucknam Park, which has held its star since 2006. Executive chef Hywel Jones crafts menus around seasonal ingredients that might include Hampshire venison, Cornish day-boat turbot or roast Scottish diver scallops.

The on-site equestrian centre offers private lessons, guided group rides and a three-hour Cotswolds Explorer horseback outing through the surrounding countryside. Walking the grounds reveals fixed fences and jumps that make up a cross-country course, as well as a collection of outdoor sculptures. Works such as Jane Shaw’s “Electric Blue Hare” and Stuart Anderson’s canine pair “Mojo and Arching” welcome visitors at the manor entrance, while equestrian-themed pieces like Frippy Jameson’s “At Grass” and Nicola Toms’ “Stable Mates” complement the stables and gardens.

The spa occupies a converted stable complex behind the main house and features a hydro area with pools, steam rooms, saunas and an ice bath. The treatment menu focuses on holistic mind-and-body therapies, offering options such as dry flotation, intuitive crystal healing and mindfulness massage. Signature treatments use sustainable products from the U.K.-based Natural Spa Factory and include sea-salt scrubs and masks, jade Gua Sha facials, and a variety of massages including hot stone and myofascial release.
Located in Chippenham, just a few miles from the historic city of Bath and under two hours’ drive west of London, Lucknam Park is well placed for both leisure and business. The estate is equipped to host meetings, corporate events and private celebrations, making it a versatile destination whether you plan a romantic getaway, a family break or an event with colleagues.
