Etihad Introduces Upgraded Economy Class Experience

Etihad Airways has introduced a refreshed economy-class experience on its updated Airbus A320 and A321 fleet.

The refurbished narrow-body aircraft, used on short-haul and regional routes, now feature redesigned economy seats that provide increased knee room and improved ergonomics. Each seat includes convenient USB charging ports and an adjustable holder for phones and tablets, making device use more comfortable throughout the flight.

Passengers can now enjoy wireless in-flight entertainment on these aircraft, with access to a library of more than 300 hours of movies and television shows available to stream to personal devices.

On flights lasting longer than three hours, complimentary dining has been upgraded to a larger, bistro-style meal that emphasizes both taste and sustainability. Tableware now incorporates recycled materials, and cutlery has been redesigned to be 85 percent lighter, reducing aircraft weight and fuel consumption. As part of its environmental efforts, Etihad aims to eliminate 27 million plastic lids and similar containers from its service and reduce single-use plastics by 80 percent by 2022.

Desserts are served separately alongside after-meal coffee and tea, while the onboard retail menu has been slightly expanded to offer more choices for purchase.

Additional comfort items, including new blankets, pillows and headrest covers, are also provided to enhance the passenger experience.

“As a leading full-service airline, Etihad is adapting to meet the specific needs and requirements of all travelers, providing more of what they really want to enjoy inflight. This not only delivers greater choice and personalization, it also ensures we continue to provide a superior, commercially wise and sustainable service offering,” said Tony Douglas, group CEO of Etihad Aviation Group.
