Hook Island, part of the Whitsunday Islands in Australia, will soon welcome a luxury eco-lodge developed by a group of investors led by Epochal Hotels’ CEO in partnership with design firm Luxury Frontiers.
“Hook Island is a truly spectacular part of the world — its raw beauty deserves a sanctuary that both preserves and celebrates every facet of its charm. Our vision is bold: to create an experience that redefines luxury travel through a deep, authentic and wild-spirited connection to nature,” said Glenn Piper, CEO, Epochal Hotels.

The eco-lodge is being designed around biophilic principles that celebrate the island’s natural character while minimizing environmental impact. Materials and finishes will reflect the surrounding landscape, and the architecture will be modular and cyclone-resistant to meet local climatic conditions. Daily operations are planned to prioritize sustainability through energy-efficient systems, waste reduction and other eco-conscious practices.
Accommodations will include 39 individually designed cabins set in forest or beachfront locations, with six distinct room types that combine natural textures and a color palette drawn from Hook Island’s greens, browns and coastal blues, accented by brighter tones inspired by local flora and wildlife. Guests will arrive via a welcoming pavilion and can choose from two dining venues, a beach club, a forest eco pool, dedicated wellness spaces and a kids’ club.
The resort’s programming will emphasize outdoor experiences and local conservation, offering a range of activities from guided island walks and wildlife observation to snorkeling and excursions to the nearby Great Barrier Reef. The design and guest offerings aim to provide a barefoot-luxury atmosphere that encourages authentic connection with the environment while maintaining comfortable, well-appointed amenities.
Targeted to open in 2027, the Hook Island eco-lodge aims to set a new benchmark for sustainable luxury travel in Australia by combining sensitive design, resilient construction and environmentally minded operations to protect and celebrate the Whitsundays’ natural values.
