Southwest Airlines Adds On-Demand In-Flight Entertainment via Row 44

For just $5, passengers on WiFi-equipped Southwest Airlines flights can now access on-demand movies and select television episodes directly on their personal devices. The carrier introduced this paid on-demand option alongside an upgrade to its in-flight television offerings.

Southwest, which pioneered streaming live TV to passengers’ devices, has expanded its entertainment lineup. In addition to the existing eight-channel selection of live news and sports available on WiFi-enabled aircraft, travelers can purchase individual on-demand movies and select TV episodes for a $5 fee per device, per day.

The updated entertainment package is available for $5 per day, per device on WiFi-enabled planes, allowing viewers to watch at their convenience without needing to buy full-flight access.

All Southwest Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 aircraft are now outfitted with Row 44 satellite technology, which powers the enhanced entertainment options. New aircraft deliveries and converted AirTran planes will also be delivered with the satellite system installed, expanding availability across the fleet over time.

WiFi connectivity remains available as a separate offering for $8 per day, per device, covering all flight segments and connections. Purchasing WiFi is not required to access the $5 on-demand movie and TV service; passengers can stream purchased entertainment without buying the full internet access pass.
