Virgin Atlantic and Delta Add New Direct Flights to East Coast US

Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines have announced expanded service between London Gatwick (LGW) and two major U.S. East Coast hubs: New York (JFK) and Boston (BOS). Starting next year, the carriers’ joint operation will increase their combined offerings to 18 daily flights between the United Kingdom and these two American cities, strengthening transatlantic connectivity for both business and leisure travelers.

The new routes will operate from Gatwick’s North Terminal, where Virgin Atlantic recently opened an upgraded check-in area along with a premium Clubhouse and V-Room. For Delta, this marks a return to London Gatwick after an eight-year absence; Gatwick was also the arrival point for Delta’s first transatlantic service from Atlanta (ATL) over 40 years ago.

“Virgin Atlantic is pleased to announce that we’re expanding at London Gatwick, with the addition of new routes to New York-JFK and Boston operated in partnership with Delta,” said Juha Jarvinen, executive vice president, commercial, Virgin Atlantic. He added that the expanded schedule offers customers a broad choice of U.S. destinations and enhances the carrier’s transatlantic product, complemented by one of Virgin Atlantic’s newest and most luxurious Clubhouses in Gatwick’s North Terminal. The new JFK and Boston services will go on sale later this year and will complement the range of Caribbean and Florida routes already served from Gatwick.

Roberto Ioriatti, Delta’s vice president for transatlantic operations, emphasized the value of the additional frequencies. “Delta once again shows that we are able to connect Boston and New York to the world through an unmatched global network paired with our award-winning service, industry-leading reliability, and an enhanced customer experience both in the air and on the ground,” he said. “These new services will offer even more ways for our customers on both sides of the Atlantic to experience the products and services that set Delta and its partners apart while traveling to the destinations they value most.”

This announcement builds on Virgin Atlantic’s recent network growth, including newly announced routes from London Heathrow (LHR) to Tel Aviv (TLV) and São Paulo (GRU). The Tel Aviv service is scheduled to begin later this year, while the São Paulo route is set to launch in 2020, further expanding the airline’s global reach from London.

The Gatwick expansion reflects ongoing demand for direct transatlantic travel and greater choice among carriers serving London’s airports. For travelers, the increased joint service from Virgin Atlantic and Delta means more daily flights, flexible scheduling options, and improved ground and inflight amenities—particularly for those flying from or to London’s Gatwick North Terminal.
