Great Bear Rainforest Lodge to Open in British Columbia in 2026

An hour north of Vancouver, British Columbia by helicopter or seaplane, Fawn Bluff offers a new model of luxury set within untamed wilderness. Perched on 340 acres between the Pacific Ocean and private Leask Lake, the lodge provides intimate access to the Great Bear Rainforest where guests may spot black bears, river otters, bald eagles, humpback whales and orcas. Founded by David Tuchbant as a nonprofit “hybrid hospitality project,” the property is intended to blend purposeful stewardship with exceptional guest experiences.

“I was drawn to Fawn Bluff by the orcas, but I stayed for the people,” Tuchbant says. “For me, Fawn Bluff is about rewriting what hospitality can mean. It’s not performance, but intuition; not consumption, but regeneration.”

Fawn Bluff works closely with the Xwémalhkwu — Homalco First Nation — known as the “People of the Fast-Running Waters.” Guests can engage with Homalco cultural traditions through programs and activities led by community members, gaining meaningful insight into local knowledge, stories and stewardship practices.

The property is composed of a Main House, constructed from Douglas fir and sited on a bluff, plus a separate Lake Cabin on the shore of Leask Lake. The Main House offers five bedrooms with capacity for up to 10 adults and four children. The Lake Cabin, which sleeps four, includes a private dock for swimming, sunbathing, kayaking and paddleboarding.

Chef Kwin, trained in Michelin kitchens, curates seasonal menus that emphasize foraged and locally sourced ingredients. Guided foraging walks highlight items used in the kitchen such as wild salmon, bladderwrack seaweed, fresh prawns, huckleberries, thimbleberries, bearberries, Oregon grapes, Saskatoon berries and alpine cranberries—bringing a deep sense of place to each meal.

Located on Bute Inlet between Tofino and Whistler, Fawn Bluff will operate seasonally from June 1 through October 15, 2026. Lodge rentals are offered as full buyouts of the Main House and Lake Cabin and include dedicated staff, guided activities, curated meals prepared by a private chef, and a selection of wines and spirits. Transfers to the property and helicopter excursions are available but not included in the standard rental packages.

Fawn Bluff’s approach blends conservation, Indigenous collaboration and refined hospitality to create secluded, restorative stays that celebrate the ecological and cultural richness of this region of British Columbia.
