American Airlines Launches Special CES 2019 Flights for Attendees

American Airlines and Japan Airlines announced a special non-stop flight for CES 2019 to meet increased demand between Tokyo (NRT) and Las Vegas (LAS). The temporary service will run from January 4–14, 2019, providing a direct connection timed for the International Consumer Electronics Show.

The aircraft used for the route is an American Airlines Boeing 787-8, and the flight is marketed by Japan Airlines. This operation represents a modified routing of American’s usual Tokyo–Chicago (ORD) service, which during the CES period includes a stop in Las Vegas. Japan Airlines will continue to operate its regular non-stop Tokyo–Chicago service throughout the same period.

“Thousands of travelers from Japan and other parts of Asia make their way to Las Vegas every year for CES,” said Shane Hodges, managing director of Asia Pacific sales for American Airlines. “The network and onboard experience provided by American and Japan Airlines through our Pacific Joint Business is world-class, and we are pleased to make travel to the world’s largest technology event faster and more convenient than ever.”

“Travelers in Asia are discerning and want the best schedules on the best aircraft,” said Noboru Hirai, vice president of international passenger sales and planning at Japan Airlines. “This special service lets us meet those expectations while collaborating closely with American to tailor the flight to Japanese customers’ needs.”

Scheduled times for the special service will see departures from Las Vegas at 11:25 a.m., arriving in Japan at 4:25 p.m. the following day. Return departures from Japan are scheduled for 6:25 p.m., arriving back in Las Vegas at 11:40 a.m. Tickets for the special route are available now.

“For many visitors each year, Las Vegas means business, and CES is the prime example,” said Rosemary A. Vassiliadis, director of McCarran International Airport. “With those customers in mind, the airport works closely with airlines and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to expand and improve traveler options during peak demand. This American Airlines service will make it easier for technology enthusiasts from Japan to attend CES. The 10-day operation is expected to generate an estimated $2.8 million in additional economic impact, on top of the more than $270 million annually that CES and its roughly 184,000 attendees contribute to the local economy.”
