One of Alaska’s most luxurious — and most remote — properties is now welcoming guests.
Perched within Denali National Park on a rocky glacier outcrop known as a nunatak, The Sheldon Chalet occupies an extraordinary location on the flanks of North America’s tallest peak. Its setting alone is remarkable, and the guest experience builds on that natural drama.

The Chalet is a true five-star wilderness retreat born from a half-century family vision. Don and Roberta Sheldon staked a claim to this land in the mid-1950s, but turning it into a hospitality destination took time. Obtaining permits required more than a decade, and construction spanned an additional three years.
Reaching the property is part of the adventure: visitors fly into Anchorage (ANC), drive roughly two hours to Talkeetna, then take an hour-long helicopter flight into the Don Sheldon Amphitheater, a valley shaped by glacial movement. The journey culminates with expansive mountain vistas and immediate access to front-row wilderness experiences.
The five-bedroom Chalet sits on five private acres within the national park and is designed for guests who want to combine refined comfort with outdoor pursuits. Accommodations are geared toward groups of up to 10 guests, with wraparound windows in each room that frame panoramic views of towering peaks and the Aurora Borealis. Interiors balance modern, comfortable furnishings with clean, thoughtful design. On-site services include fine Alaskan dining and tailored concierge programming that can arrange activities such as heli-skiing, guided snowshoe treks, wildlife viewing and northern lights excursions.
