Cheyenne Restores Passenger Flights: What Travelers Need to Know

Cheyenne, the capital of Wyoming, has been without scheduled passenger airline service since March, when the last carrier discontinued flights to the city. That gap will soon close: American Airlines is launching new daily service to coincide with the opening of Cheyenne Regional Airport’s new terminal.

Beginning Nov. 4, American Airlines will operate one daily roundtrip between Cheyenne (CYS) and its Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport hub. The service will be operated by regional partner SkyWest Airlines using a 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200 regional jet.

The schedule has the outbound flight departing Dallas at 9:10 a.m. CT and arriving in Cheyenne at 10:10 a.m. MT. The return departs Cheyenne at 10:35 a.m. MT and lands back in Dallas at 1:35 p.m. CT. This routing restores a connection that American Eagle previously provided between Cheyenne and Dallas until 2012, when the regional operation ceased amid bankruptcy.

“American Airlines looks forward to beginning this new service,” said Nichelle Tait, a corporate communications specialist for the carrier.

Cheyenne Regional Airport will also debut a new 26,000-square-foot terminal to accommodate the returning commercial service. The facility upgrade is timed with the new flight to improve passenger experience and airport operations.

The restored link to Dallas/Fort Worth gives Cheyenne travelers convenient access to a major airline hub, expanding connections for both business and leisure travel. With daily departures, residents and visitors gain a predictable schedule for same-day travel to and from the region’s primary connecting airport.

As the route begins, passengers should check the airline’s published schedule for any updates and arrive at the airport with adequate time for check-in and security screening. The use of a 50-seat regional jet reflects demand expectations for the market and provides a direct, efficient option for those flying between Cheyenne and the national network available through Dallas/Fort Worth.
