Off-the-Grid Sápmi Adventure in Swedish Lapland

Tour operator Off the Map Travel offers an immersive itinerary in northern Sweden designed to introduce travelers to the culture and landscapes of Sápmi. The new Sápmi Experience takes guests to the heart of Swedish Lapland for direct encounters with the indigenous Sámi community and their traditional way of life.

The program is a three-night, four-day stay at Sápmi Nature Camp on the Sjavnja Nature Reserve in Laponia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Accommodation is in newly built Sámi lavvus (traditional teepee tents) that have been upgraded for comfort while preserving their authentic design. Each lavvu accommodates two people and includes a double bed, wood-burning stove, furnishings and a private bathroom, offering a cozy glamping experience in a remote natural setting.

Throughout the stay, participants join Sámi hosts for hands-on activities such as traditional cooking, reindeer herding, fishing and foraging for berries and wild herbs. The program also includes a wildlife safari aimed at spotting local species like moose, a Sámi-led ski tour using traditional wooden skis, and a bonfire gathering on the ice of a frozen river—moments designed to connect visitors with local skills, stories and landscapes.
