Marriott International Opens First Singapore Hotel: What to Know

The South Beach Hotel in Singapore will soon transition to new management after striking a deal with Marriott International, marking the global chain’s first property in the city-state. The hotel will be rebranded as the JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach and will undergo careful renovations and modest construction while remaining open throughout the summer season to minimize guest disruption.

The most extensive changes will take place in the lobby area, which will be expanded and redesigned to create a more welcoming arrival experience. The property will also introduce a remodeled spa and three new on-site restaurants, adding diverse dining and wellness options for guests. Renovation and refurbishment work is scheduled for completion in time for the hotel to relaunch under the JW Marriott name in November.

Alongside this 634-room conversion, Marriott plans to introduce a second Singapore property under its luxury EDITION brand. The Singapore EDITION, a 190-room boutique hotel aimed at upscale business travelers, will be constructed as an entirely new building. Targeted for an approximate 2019 opening, it will be situated in the Orchard district, a prime location for shopping and corporate visitors.

Marriott’s pending merger with Starwood Hotels & Resorts played a significant role in Singapore’s decision to welcome the international chain, helping to solidify Marriott’s expanded global presence in the city-state.
