Feeling peckish? If you’re in London, visit Rosewood London’s Mirror Room to experience a new afternoon tea menu that blends Japanese flavours with artful pastry creations by Executive Pastry Chef Mark Perkins. The menu is inspired by the work of Katsushika Hokusai, the renowned Japanese printmaker best known for the series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji and the iconic print The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
The savoury selection opens with Japanese BBQ beef brisket paired with wasabi coleslaw on a milk bun, sake-marinated smoked salmon with yuzu kosho mayo, caviar and dill, and a delicate Japanese egg sandwich. These are followed by a subtly flavoured Japanese citrus cheesecake and freshly baked scones served with jams and clotted cream.

The menu culminates in an array of cakes named after Hokusai’s masterpieces. Guests can enjoy Cherry Blossom and Warbler, a Japanese roll cake with sakura cherry jelly, sencha-infused ganache and yuzu chocolate; The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a white chocolate lemon chiffon cake layered with strawberry compote and lychee vanilla cream; and Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit, a rich composition of matcha namelaka, matcha pistachio feuilletine, miso caramel and 64% chocolate mousse.
Beverage options complement the flavours and theme. An exclusive selection of Japanese teas is available, and diners can request a tableside matcha brewing ceremony. The cocktail list features handcrafted drinks such as The Lantern Ghost—Roku Gin, yuzu, strawberry, umeshu (plum wine), orange blossom and citrus—while a non-alcoholic option called Zen combines Seedlip Garden, Martini Floreale, CBD oil and lemon oil for a refreshing, aromatic mocktail.

To enhance the Hokusai-inspired experience, the Mirror Room will host live Japanese woodblock printing demonstrations in partnership with local artists and art schools. The room’s décor reflects Japanese aesthetics, with bonsai displays and traditional floral arrangements creating a calm, immersive atmosphere. The Hokusai-Inspired Art Afternoon Tea is offered daily from noon to 5:45 p.m.; reservations are available through Rosewood London’s booking channels.
