Booking.com has announced plans to become the first major online travel brand in the United States to offer hotel bookings in Cuba. The move follows President Barack Obama’s historic visit to the island and recent relaxations of U.S. business and travel restrictions that open new opportunities for American travelers and companies.
According to the company, after several months of coordination with Cuban authorities and local hotel partners, the initial properties will be available for booking on Booking.com in the coming weeks.
The launch will begin with hotels in Havana, with additional properties across the island to be added over time. The travel industry expects demand from U.S. visitors to grow as access improves and booking options expand.
“With the easing of U.S. travel restrictions, we moved quickly to work with Cuban government and tourism authorities as well as our hotel partners to launch a platform that allows travelers to book and receive instant confirmation,” said Todd Dunlap, managing director for the Americas at Booking.com.
This development represents a significant step in reconnecting U.S. travelers with Cuba’s tourism market. By enabling instant online bookings, the company aims to simplify travel planning and offer a wider selection of accommodations to visitors exploring Havana and beyond.
As properties are added, travelers should expect a growing range of options, from centrally located hotels in Havana’s historic districts to lodgings in other regions of the country. Booking.com’s early entry may help shape how American tourists access Cuban accommodations in the months ahead.
