Azul Hotels by Karisma has announced a $40 million expansion of the Azul Fives Hotel by Karisma in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, with completion planned for January 2015. The project adds the new Essence Section, featuring 64 upscale suites, and The Fives Plaza, a 13,000-square-foot lifestyle area with dining, bars, a coffee shop and a fitness center.
The Essence Section will offer 64 one-, two- and three-bedroom suites designed for relaxation and privacy, including swim-up suites and elevated sky suites. Suites will include amenities such as private daybeds, Jacuzzis, garden or pool views, and access to two new pools, ensuring a variety of accommodation options to suit couples and families.
The Fives Plaza will span approximately 13,000 square feet and bring a curated mix of culinary and social venues to the resort. Dining options will include Koh Thai, focusing on wok-prepared specialties; Oka Sushi, offering Japanese sushi and related dishes; and La Brasserie, which will present classic French bistro fare in a casual setting. Beverage and social spaces will include two new bars—Nineteen Ten Mexican Cantina, with a local flavor, and The Gin Bar, featuring a selection of gins and craft cocktails—alongside a dedicated coffee shop for lighter fare and beverages. A modern, fully equipped gym will complete the plaza, providing guests with fitness and wellness amenities on-site.
Rates for accommodations in the new Essence Section start at $217 per night, based on double occupancy. Prices include the resort’s Gourmet Inclusive Experience, which features à la carte gourmet dining, premium alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, 24-hour room service and full concierge service. These rates apply to stays beginning January 1, 2015.
