According to Allianz Partners USA’s recent Top Valentine’s Day Destinations report, searches for Valentine’s Day travel plans climbed 45 percent this year compared with last year. Allianz analyzed more than 700,000 round-trip flight itineraries departing U.S. airports Feb. 2–6 with returns Feb. 9–13 and found that 71 percent of itineraries are domestic while 29 percent are international.

“Love is indeed in the air this year, with flight itineraries soaring around the Valentine’s Day holiday,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA. He noted that travelers who prioritize trips over traditional gifts should consider travel insurance to protect prepaid expenses against unpredictable events such as trip cancellations or interruptions, travel delays, and baggage problems.
Florida dominates the top destinations this year. Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Miami claim the top three spots for romantic getaways, followed by Honolulu and Kahului, Hawai’i, at four and five. Mountain destinations also appear on the list, with Salt Lake City at number eight and Denver at number ten.
On the international front, sun-and-sand destinations are popular. Mexico, Aruba, Jamaica, Costa Rica and other Caribbean locations rank highly. Cancún takes the number one international spot, and St. Thomas is the first U.S. Virgin Island to make the list in the ten years Allianz has tracked Valentine’s Day travel trends.
The report highlights a clear preference for short, accessible escapes around the Valentine’s Day window, with most travelers opting for domestic trips but a substantial share choosing international beach destinations. As demand for Valentine’s travel grows, travelers may want to plan early and consider protections like travel insurance to minimize financial risk and ensure smoother trips.
