South African Airways and Etihad Launch Expanded Codeshare Partnership

South African Airways and Etihad Airways have announced a new codeshare agreement covering selected routes between the United Arab Emirates and South Africa. Under the arrangement, Etihad will initially place its EY code on South African Airways flights from Johannesburg (JNB) to Cape Town (CPT), Durban (DUR), East London (ELS) and Port Elizabeth (PLZ) in South Africa, as well as on services to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (VFA), and São Paulo, Brazil (GRU).

Conversely, South African Airways will add its code to 12 Etihad Airways destinations from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to cities across Asia and the Middle East. Those specific destinations will be confirmed once regulatory approvals are secured.

The agreement also extends benefits to frequent flyers: members of Etihad Guest and South African Airways’ Voyager program will be able to earn and redeem miles on these codeshare flights, making travel between the networks more convenient and rewarding for passengers.

This codeshare partnership is intended to strengthen connectivity between southern Africa and Etihad’s broader international network, offering travelers more seamless booking options, wider route choices and improved access to frequent-flyer benefits across both carriers.
